Hartge h26 project.....the long road:) Oct 2014 begins:)
Careful, WD-40 leaves a film that will attract even more dirt, grime and junk over time. For cleaning electrical contacts you should really be using electrical contact cleaner. WD-40 is more of a lube/mild solvent.
Good point: I have to take this all apart again to fix the speakers, so I will get the correct contact spray and do it right. Thanks for the input, I was just trying to see if I could get it to work.
thanks,
jm

Got the exhaust tip on today. The car does not even sound the same. Gone is the drone of the exhaust... now it has a nice clean rumble. Can't believe an exhaust tip can make that much difference.
Will get a picture up later today.

Can't believe how a bit of wd40 can make things work again. The passenger side window is now working. The wires were dirty, so out comes the wd again, and now I have working mirrors and windows...off to the coffee shop in the morning with all the windows down...:)
Well, for the first time in years the power mirrors are working. If you do not have power to the mirrors, check the plug in the door. You have to take the speaker out and pull the plug out that is the wiring harness in the door jam. Clean it good, use some wd40, or whatever you want. The windows will work better too:). Now I have mirrors!!!

exhaust tip in the morning:)
Will get pictures of that process
Started working on my power mirrors today. The problem is the plug in the door frame. The big white one that takes the wires from the door to the inside the car. I have a lose wire. So have to take that apart and repair it.....I did have mirrors working for a few minutes, but I think I will have to take it all apart to clean and maybe repair the wiring harness:(.
Going to be fun, but after that I am going to get the passenger side window working. Have the motor, just have to put it in..
Mike, STIG on the forum, helped me do the valve adjustment last week. The car runs much better. Going to take it out again tomorrow to get it up to speed and see how it runs.

Thank you Barron and jm for all of the details on the front end. It looks great - I can't wait to get started on mine. I just use it as a daily right now so I haven't had the time to get it done.
Also, my car is an 85 but I still have to wait 5 more years to register as a classic in KS. :curse:
It looks great so far. I think I might be straying away from a tribute... I itch for an S52 or something... but that's the last thing on the list so we'll see haha. I just want to enjoy it and not fret about being perfect in the process.
Great to see your progress as always. Keep it up!
Glad mine is on a classic plate:)
You could do the hartge body with an s52. Make it your own car. I know mine is not 'perfect' in regards to the hartge parts, but it was what I could find and it looks 100% better than when I first got the car....need to work on the interior now:)
Your paint photographs nicely, hardly in need of a respray.
Super clean bumpers!
Looks like the car was painted a few years back...might not be original paint....It looks like about 7.5 out of 10 in real life, but it is really nice for an old e30:). Maybe next year the car will be taken apart and repainted. I just don't want to do a super cheap or expensive job on the car....

Not sure if that is something hartge used back in the day for the early model?
Raul or someone with more knowledge about hartge would have to jump in here and let us know. Does look nice:)

Thanks, it has been a great project.
This morning I worked on the lights...now every outside light works. I think it has been years since the city-lights have worked. Have to get one more bulb for the fog light and a few bulbs for the cluster and the car will be set....
Calling the exhaust shop to get an appointment for next week to have the tip put on:).
Then I have to work on the side decals. I have a set, but I think I want to make a copy to put the cheap copy on first, so I have a 'back-up' set for when I paint the car....
We will see.
I would like to start working on the gauges too..
