    Project my first e30

Hi guys! I recently purchased an e30. After looking on craigslist for months I found one. I drove down to Chicago from Michigan to go and pick it up.

Little story about the car, the lady got hit in the back and somehow broke the the flange one the rear of the cylinder head. A shop quoted her $600 for the labor because they were going to have to drop the engine . SOoo when I saw it on craigslist for a more than fair price i scooped it right up.

The car looked clean from the outside and the interior looked mint, plus the dash was crack free! Unfortunately the car is an auto... But thats going to be changed.

Plans for the car this year are S52 swap and obviously converted to a manual!

    My parts list so far

    S52 fully assembled long block
    S52 cams - Bimmerforums
Zf Trans - Pull it Yourself Junkyard
    E34 Oil pan- Pull it
    E34 Pick up- Pull It
    M50 Intake manifold- Pull it
    E21 Brake Booster- Pull it
OBD1 Manual Harness- Pull it in San Antonio
    Clutch pedal assembly- Craigslist
    All Accessories- Pull it
3.25 Ring and pinion, since my car already has an LSD- Ebay
    Prop Shaft- Friend
    Z3 Steering Rack- Junk yard
    ECU

I might have some other parts too but i cant remember, my garage is geting full.

Initially i did not start working on the car 2 weeks after purchase so it sat outside. One day it rained and the car got flooded. So immediately i decide to pull the carpet. After removing the carpet guess what I found!! ...rust in the front floor pan. a few spots are bad so I'm going to have to cut and weld a new patch. I will post pics of the rust tomorrow.

I decided to start tearing the car apart...

Its currently 30 degrees in Michigan so its really un motivating to do work.
This is how the car is currently sitting.

Tomorrow morning I'm sending the head I picked up to the shop to get cleaned and pressure tested

Im hoping I will have the engine out next weekend, so I can start prepping the engine bay. Im going to have to sand off all the surface rust and coat the whole thing with POR-15.

I apologize in advance for the picture quality, all pictures are going to be from my I phone.

        Small Update

The weather in Michigan started warming up a bit so I managed to pull the exhaust off! The downpipe bolts luckily broke loose easy, so I was able too pull it off in one piece.

Also as promised, pictures of the floor rust I'm going to have to deal with once the engine is off.....

The drivers side is the worst, passenger side not too bad..

        More to come soon.....

          Hi guys!

Sorry for the no updates, been busy with work and stuff. But I have make some progress on the car!

Here it is all ready to be pulled...

          Starting the pull...

Almost there..(the trans quickly made me regret not draining it.)

          Out!

Lucky I was able to sell the Engine and trans one day later. I had no room in my garage and I felt bad scraping it.

It was a beautiful Saturday when I pulled the engine out, so I decided to pull the girl out to get some sun while I cleaned the mess in the garage!

Since you guys have never seen an engine less bay before.....

Began wire wheeling the bay to get some rust off for the Por-15

I put all the wiring in a bag so I could wash and prep the bay. I know some people would have removed the whole harness, but this works for me as well...

During Por-15...Should have put something on the floor to catch some paint.

A few hours later...(spoiler alert, S52 makes an appearance.)

As I was getting the engine bay ready I was also working on the engine itself (Yes I know It has the stock oil pan, dont worry it got swapped:p)

          More engine stuff...

          Getting there.

          Boom..

Today I removed the subframe, to get it ready for the reinforcement plates. The right hand control arm was being a B, the nut was rusted so it would not come out all the way. After attempting everything to remove it, I decided to just pull the subframe out with the arm attached. I then ended up cutting the nut out... that worked.

After degreasing it, I began wire wheeling it.....

Got both sides pretty much to bare metal

This is as far as I have gotten so far.
I am currently waiting on the reinforcement place from Gargastic which should be here soon. Will have photos of those welded on, then its getting painted.

          Stay tuned!

            hey guys, got some updates!
            Finnally got the engine in.

For anyone who has done a 24v swap I have some questions.
Getting the engine in was a b*&$.
Has any one else had this problem?

I'm using e28 M5 mounts but they look to have an incredible amount of tension on them.
I have read some of the other swap and noticed that people mounted the mounts on the outer holes of the subframe....I could not do that because of the reinforcment plate that I put on which could not allow me to tighten down the bolt.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
