Hello everyone! This is my 1987 e30 325i convertible that I will be attempting to bring back to life. I just recently purchased this car last October and it is my very first full on "project car". When it comes to the Bmw community I am what you call a n00b, but have recently acquired a huge interest for these cars so I plan on expanding my knowledge. A bit of info on the car is the odometer stopped working at 163k so the mileage is unknown, it's sitting on raceland suspension (yeah I know...) and came with stock bottle cap wheels which I actually personally like.
Alright with that out of the way moving onto the car, this 87 vert has seen its better days. Upon arrival the car had a "small oil filter leak" that just needed to be tightened (supposedly), but would soon come to my attention as an utter mess. The previous owner had cracked the oil pan because of how low it was so the car's motor comes with what I call a triple layer of fun! (yay don't we all love working on Oil caked engines). So my first step of action was to pull the motor/trans and assess the damages which I did and to no surprise this little engine needs some serious TLC. I have a few options, I can either rebuild this motor or I can buy my dads m20 engine/trans that has a m20 super sport head built by bimmerhead and new clutch.
My second course of action after pulling the motor was to clean everything I
possibly could and get as much oil out of the engine bay as possible. Oh boy do I hate how messy oil gets everything... After spending a full day scraping/scrubbing/wiping oil off the subframe, rack and pinion and everything else this damn thing is still a fucking mess.
Anyways this is currently where I'm at and plan on cleaning up the rest of the engine bay later on in the week. Here are a few pics of the car.
