Also, yeah, I was pleased with the shafts. A skim through a wire wheel on a bench grinder took all the nasty stuff off, and then a few coats of rusty metal primer flattened it out nicely.

Well, this one is moving. The white car needs the engine bay painted and the motor dropped in.. it should be relatively close to done after that, but having to paint the bay is discouraging me a lot.
Then don't ;) Rock the car for a year or two with a sub-prime engine bay, or worse (better?), rhino line it

In a few weeks I'm also doing a road trip to harvest spares for a stroker build. Haven't thought about internals much, yet, but that will be a longer-term project as well.

    I'm currently restoring a BMW 2002 Touring
    (it was sitting like this)

I've done some major rust repair on this one, and still have a long way to go. I also looked into acid dipping but went with regular sandblasting. Once you search into acid dipping there are quite a bit of horror stories out there of acid seeping back through the seams, stripping the paint and undercoating.

You need to understand that EVERY surface that has paint (eg inside of frame rails etc) will also be stripped..

shameless plug to my restoration thread

Give it to him already! That would make it already look 10 times better.

I currently know 0 things about m20 strokers! would love to take that up a notch

thinking to acid-dip before, just to get a really clear idea of where all the rust is. hopefully the shell will stay in one piece, but the rot is *pretty advanced*. however, I also know 0 things about acid dipping, so maybe that's a dumb idea.

    +1

Same situation with my IX. Would you acid dip before rust repair or after? I’m thinking after but concerned about rust.

Would love to touch base with you in the stroker topic.
