I was thinking the same thing.. It would be nice to see it a bit more uniform, but I guess that works.

I love these motors. That stuff looks super clean (obviously, because it just came back from the machine shop). Let's see it assembled.

It's pretty neat how nice the factory intake ports are.

    All the valves

The crankshaft, it was put straight and they repaired the number two rod journal. It's standard on the main and rods now, the damaged journal was chromed, you can weld and grind back to standard and heat treat but you risk warping the crank pretty bad. They opted to chrome the journal which avoids any warping that would require the mains to be grinded and to ensure you get the same hardness as if it was heat treated.

    Here is the journal

I'll update this as I go along.

Project S14 rebuild for my new E30 M3

Here are some pictures of my S14 rebuild. I bought the car with a spun bearing and am doing a top to bottom rebuild on the motor. I decided to save the 2.3L crank as to make a 2.5L stroker kit work you need too many supporting mods to make it worth it.

Here is the block back from the machine shop, it was tanked with new frost plugs installed with loctite. It was also honed.

I got a new rod for the cyl that spun just to be safe, I also had all of them line honed. They tanked all the pistons for me.

Got the fly wheel machined with a new OEM Sachs clutch.

Here is the top part of the head all cleaned up.

Here is the cylinder head, got all the valve seats done.

Working...
