    Brilliant Rot 1991 318is

Picked this car up the other weekend

It needs lots of things like a timing rebuild, release bearing, CABs.
Ive got lots of things to put on it already.

Bilsteins, P/N 50404.55 H&R Sports, M20 Flywheel and clutch, stainless brake lines
    Spare parts FTW
Ive got some 15" BBS RZs to go on it as well.
Lots of miles but the car is in amazing shape all original paint and panels, close to perfect interior, tweeters, premium speakers, black headliner, nice car.

Hopefully have it lowered and order some tires and a IS lip for it next week.

Did lots of things to the car today.
Its got a oil leak on the timing case so i'll have to get to that.

I pulled the oil pan and cleaned it up.

Couldnt use the powerwasher today so ill get that cleaned up another day.
Changed the oil and pulled the valve cover to see what I could see.

Gears are a bit worn, the front end of the motor makes a ton of noise, sounds like a deisel.
Could'nt stand the car at stock ride height so I threw the rear springs and shocks on.

The car is pretty corroded but things came apart pretty easy
One of the RSMs was totally blown, Springs are my old 325 H&R OE Sport Springs off my white car and some used bilstein sports I got. Still need to swap the front springs out between the 2 cars.

      Much better.
      More to do tonight.

The diesel sound is probably caused by a worn chain tensioner. Change that out and it should quiet down a bit. It's good that you didnt find any bolt in your lower oil pan as that's a concern with alot of m42 owners. Paint looks really nice!

Im going to pick one up and throw it in and see what happens.

Did a super quick half assed paint job on the calipers and rotor hats. All I was concerned with was looking clean through the wheel.

230k mile original control arms. Beleive it or not the ball joints are holding strong but the bushings done.

Should I replace this stuff? HAHA

I love how orange my paint looks.
Really could use the CABs now but i'll wait to do it when I replace the entire control arm.
Took apart the strut assembly and found out the strut mounts were "newerish" so one less thing to replace.
Should have everything cleaned, painted and back together by the weekend. I cant stand having a stock ride height e30. They look and drive so funny.

Just so you know, if the motor still leaks, I'm going to bet that the o ring behind the oil filer housing is shot. Mine was an I was utterly convinced it was the timing case. Leaked like crazy, but I guess its a common problem and the fix is easy. My local dealer even had the gasket and o ring in stock.

Put the new timing chain tensioner in today.
Makes no noise anymore, sounds like my other M42 now.
Super easy to put in but the chain makes a terrible noise just after you put it in until the tensoiner fills with oil and extends. Scary sound
I should have the car back on the ground by the end of tomorrow.
