Why? E30s attract a lot of folks who really enjoy a fun, older car. ...and E30s are one of a very small group of 20+ year old cars that you are actually likely to find in usable condition.

You'd think thearkitekt would make more flying planes too. Maybe Cleveland really is screwed.

so what are you saying? most of you are old? Maybe I don't see the connection. A lot of the posters here are barely out of high school. Are these the two ends of the poll spectrum we are seeing?

Well, for starters, $100k/year really isn't much in my area. Keep in mind how brutal the cost of living is in some places.

...but no, I wasn't saying anything of the sort. What I was saying is that the E30 is a hell of a fun car (and one that is both durable and unusually likely to be in decent condition after 20 years) and that it is appealing for reasons that go beyond the cost.

What kind of stuff do you work on? Jobs in NEO are definitely behind on the pay scale compared to the rest of the nation, but that is because the jobs keep leaving, thus creating more people fighting for the same jobs. It's basic supply and demand. I'm further south of you, near Youngstown. Our wages are even cheaper. My family owns a machine shop and in this town, the average wage to hire a CNC machine operator is about $11-13. The shops around Cleveland pay between $16-18 and nationwide, a lot of cities have to pay $22-25 just to get decent help.

$18. Comes out to about $28 with overtime.

Should be making $20, but with the economy in the hole and the complete and utter lack of work, asking for a raise right now would yield me jack squat.

Next time do gross income instead of hourly.

I make about 100k but it doesn't go all that far here. It would translate to about 40 to 60 k in middle America.

Yeah this sounds about right. Right now I do power supply repair with a little DC-DC converter PCB layout on the side. If this layout wasn't for such a fly by night company I think it would cost them $60k to get someone on board to do this but they have this sucker right here instead.
I did factory maintenance on CNC's and stuff for a few years, that was about $18-20 with a fuckload of mandatory overtime but it wasn't worth the risk of falling into a vat of molten aluminum.
