    Suggestions, Reviews of Moving Services

So, I am in the midst of looking for a good moving service. You know the type, the guys that come in, take all your furniture, and all your packed boxes, and trucks it all across country to get you to your new home.

What have you gone thru, what would you do different, what headaches can I avoid from hearing about yours?

Is your job paying for the move?

Yes. If I don't find someone soon, I'm gonna hafta rent a U-HAUL due to everyone being booked. And, if I go U-Haul, no one rents a two-car dolly. I can find single car all day long, but I'm down to a few (three) weeks until the move.

Check your local BBB for reviews. The local mover does the pack out then sub's it out to parent company most of the time.

Have moved numerous times in the last 24 years. I have had good luck with Mayflower and United. Insurance!! It's cheap get it. Photo everything in the house before moving for proof and have people to watch for sticky handed packers.

My last move I lost some tools as Ex wife did not have some one watching my tools get packed.

Was out of the country at time so I had no choice.

Thought about getting a POD and packing it all yourself? I personally wouldn't like someone handling all my stuff.

POD moving is not cheap. I consider it till I did an estimate from Va to Ma. $1500 for a medium container, Cost me less than $600 with diesel and tolls renting a Budget 26 footer and a double axle trailer.

And I got $200 back on taxes :) Keep receipts.

PODS do not service the area I'm headed to.

baja california? I used new world van lines when moved from MN to CA 5 years ago, everything turned out okay. fit a trailer and a c10 in the semi. we bought them pizza when they unpacked. it was delicious.

Actually, no. I'm headed to Idaho. The more I think about it, I'd rather move my stuff myself, just cuz I don't like random people touching my things. I'm a sucker for backbreaking labor.
