Suggestions, Reviews of Auto Transport Services

So, seeing as nobody replied to my last thread, here; http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=137269 , I assume this one may get a bit more interest.

I need to ship 2 to 4 cars 1000+ miles. Two may be driven, but two are non-op project cars. Have any of you gone through this? Any suggestions?

I had my E30 shipped from Vero Beach, FL to Stillwater, OK last March. Cost $800, fuel was also much higher then.

But it was a mom and pop type outfit that only ran between FL and OK. I'm sure out west finding a carrier will be much easier.

But I do remember being asked if the car could move on its own, if not, it a lot of quotes I got it came close to DOUBLING the price.

if you would like to use the shipper i used to ship my 02 up from georgia i can send you a link. they included 1k dollars worth of damage to the front nose piece free of charge. and provided forged expired insurance forms.

i used intercity lines to ship my non-running M5 from Mass to California $1800 in a nice enclosed trailer. took about 10 days. i had zero problems.
if you give a shit about these cars, don't skimp. cheaper outfits use fly by night guys with 3 car gooseneck trailers, 1 ton pickups, and and cab full of beef jerky, mountain dew, and no doze.

They are not the most important cars in the world, the No Doze and Beef Jerfy route sounds good. My crapbox 318i, a Jag Vanden Plas, and a Dodge Neon are what's going.

I was leaning towards those guys you speak of in the Dodge truck with the three car ramp trailer. I don't need them covered.

Contact some of your dealership buddies (sales managers) and they will probably have some contacts they use for dealer transfer swaps that are the mom & pop outfits with the dodge truck and three car ramp trailers...

The mom and pop companies would be your best bet for cars that you aren't very worried about. I shipped my IX from Rhode Island to Ohio (800 miles) back when oil prices were through the roof. They quoted me $800 bucks, but gave me a deal of $550 because I just happened to catch them while they were leaving on a Friday to deliver an '02tii from Ohio to NYC. Just remember also that CASH is always king. Many companies, especially 1-2 man operations, will give you an even better deal if you offer to pay cash.

....and they didn't leave any beef jerky wrappers or empty Dew cans in the backseat either.
