You bashed holmes saying that he shouldn't talk about christianity because he is ignorant, yet it is extremely apparent that you know nothing about evolutionary theory. Do you even know what a theory is?
Everything outside of the world of mathematics and logic is theory. You accept gravity as real, yes? Well guess what, it is a theory too, and the fact that this is your only argument against evolution strips you of any credibility you may have had.
EDIT: In these threads it becomes very clear who here is educated properly.
Another marital problem thread....

SHAMWOW DOES WORK :pYeah, yeah....YEAH! HELL YEAH!
David Cross says something really funny on one of his older CDs (paraphrased):
"And on the seventh day, God rested." What the fuck? He RESTED? He's FUCKING GOD!!!!!!!! WHY DOES HE HAVE TO REST!??
A collection of stories written years ago by people "anointed" by "God" so we should all believe it. Buy a ShamWow too while you're at it.Leave a comment:

Back in the days (a few millenums ago), when science didn't exist, religions were the only ways to find answers about plagues, thunderstorms, life, death, etc... So no wonder religions filled the void and took advantage of it.
Now that science can explains everything, I wonder why people keep on believing about gods in the skies... Unless some people still have some blanks within their own life.Leave a comment:

Parts of China are very nice, the rest is a hole - just like the USA, but tolerant, thanks to the absence of religious idiots. USSR never outlawed shit and the others have persecution of any kind of expression of free thought that does not jive with the regime, not just religion. Try other places that keep their beliefs private, like France, England, Germany and Japan. If Denmark outlawed religion they wouldn't be having the problems with Muslims they are now (seen it first hand, the before and after). Instead of kludging together gimpy arguments, think about how many lives would have been spared, how much less hate there would be in the world TODAY (let alone throughout history) if religion did not exist. This thread would not exist, and the OP would be happily married.Leave a comment:

I see what you mean. The communist governments of USSR, China, N. Korea, and Vietnam outlawed religion & look what a nice place to live those countries were. That is certainly the intent - also to force immoral people to behave. The problem is that they are rules set in belief. Beliefs are not only highly personal but also baseless. This is a thermofuckingnuclear combination with the typical human being - who is incapable of having complete security with his ideas. When beliefs are confronted, there is no way to win the argument itself so the only possible recourse is an ad hominem attack. If you want an example just search jrhaile within this thread.
Or more importantly, read the story from the OP, because that is the greatest danger of beliefs. As long as there are evil men, religion will always be nothing more than the most trivial avenue of manipulation for them to benefit from.
Religion is like Anakin fucking Skywalker. It was supposed to bring peace and balance to humanity but instead it brings fear, hate and suffering. If we outlawed religion, most of the biggest problems of mankind would be gone naturally.Leave a comment:

I think science is superior to religion because it is not a system of beliefs but theories. Theories can be and are changed. The only thing that changes in religion is people are randomly booted into and out of sainthood.Leave a comment:

You're fighting a losing battle dude. I'm sorry to say it, but every religion lies in one way or another and getting her to believe that isn't going to happen especially since her family is so involved with the church from the sounds of it.
You WILL lose this battle and she had already put that out there. So now the question is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? The ball is in your court.Leave a comment:

Thanks all for the help!
The problem here is that Scientology costs a fuck load of money. I could care less if she believed in whatever religion she wants, but not one that requires you to pay upwards of $500,000.00 to get to the top of their "bridge to total freedom".
That number is not a joke.
I didn't ask her to disown all her friends/family and run away with me. I'm just wanting her to view the information and make her own choices based on facts. Not the lies from Scientology.Leave a comment:

Couldn't agree more, once again. My wife calls me a non-believer because I don't care to agree with some of the shit in the Good Book. Then when I tell her I'll fucking cut her throat if she cheats, she says "you can't do that." Bullshit I can't, it says so in the good book I can
HAHAHAHAHA!

I could not have stated this better myself, the thread is still pretty far off course though.Your world view is a popular one on this forum. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of people whose lives were wrecked, self-destructive, and a menace to others that got totally straightened out when they asked God for help. Whether God was fictional or not, that faith transformed their lives. I look at those results and have a hard time dismissing all religion and sprituality as worthless and ignorant.
And he saves it! Kudos to you.To the OP: There's no way you are going to change your wife's outlook on a religion or belief system she grew up with. But you don't have to. Be the best husband you can be. Man up - You're a freaking ROCK. Treat her family with respect but stand up for yourself at the same time. Treat your wife like gold, be patient, and be willing to weather the storm. This whole situation may end up in a better result than the gloomy outcome you can see from where you are today.Leave a comment:
