    4WS Prelude

so as i was traversing the internets i realized something, 4WS preludes are awesome. they handle superbly stock and with a few suspension mods can probably out handle most RWD/AWD* cars, as in tighter turns and such not power. why dont more people drive these cars, and why didnt honda or any company continue to use 4WS? i have not heard anything bad about them, hell i wouldnt mind owning one of these bad boys

your welcome post any cool pics of these if you have any or vids.

    *i may be bullshitting

So, you just realized the existence of the 4WS Prelude, and all of a sudden you believe it an amazing car (even after knowing how unpopular they are) and you come to R3V OT to make a thread about it? Okay, just checking.

They seem like interesting cars, but parts are probably not terribly easy to come by and the fact that three people in the world still own one that runs would scare me away from on.

A friend of mine had one of these back in high school. It was definitely a cool sensation going around corners. One draw back that may have lead to the demise of this system is the increased cost of development and production. the new seven series has it as an option though.

4WS was seemingly on every Japanease performance car from the late 80's and early 90's...

A few off the top of my head:

          Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4
          Nissan 240sx
          some Mazda RX-7s
          Toyota Celica
          etc..

From what I know, and this is coming from 240sx owners, is that it is undesirable. Alot of those guys disable the system. It could be that it is just hampered by early 90's technology though.

well i know it does not have much power but i think it would make a very interesting driving experience it out performed any car in the handling department when it was made and it can still hold its own with the new cars.

and to TDE30; i knew about 4WS i just never paid it much attention, i know they are rare to come by in unmolested form now a days but i wasnt into cars in 89 when they were being made (still young) so i wouldnt know if they were unpopular and last time i checked this is what Off Topic meant, it couldve been worst i could have posted in general discussion or come here to write about my fart's and my 1000th post. so basically ... chill

Easy killer, just joking. All I'm saying is, more information/pictures/answers to your questions regarding these things would much likely be easier to find on their respective forum or forums.

Take no offense, I'm just being a dick.

I had one back in the day and besides the cost to fix, it always felt like the car was out of alignment.

im not offended at all just keeping it interesting for the spectators but i guess you just threw that out the window. and im only on R3V (im no Farbin). i rather not go into the honda kids turf most of it is runned by badass ricers that will destroy the pleasant images of 3g preludes i have.

A buddy of mine has one, and it handles really really well. Also, the block comes with CF sleeves from the factory, so they handle boost really well. The only drawback is that the sleeves are so strong that they wear out the piston rings quickly. My buddy pulled a well-used motor apart and it still had really well-defined crosshatch on the cylinder walls.

But overall, those preludes are ugly.

I bought a new '89 Prelude Si back in the day. I opted not to do the 4ws, did not care for the way it handled (not that a fwd was any better)...

I did however, buy a few years later, a 1991 Infiniti Q45t that had 4ws and it really helped that boat in traffic and in cornering on twisties...

Here's a crappy picture of my old Prelude...

^^ prolly, scratch that, THE sickest color on this prelude i wonder how it would look on and e30? a dakar e30 would be sex i bet.

btw does anyone know if any of the cars entioned above that had 4WS come in RWD or AWD? would that be too tight on handling? is that possible?

That is a pretty nice colour. And 4ws is baller.
