    engine building for noobs books?

i did not know where to put this so i stuck it in here. i guess it could have gone in general discussion or media. books are media right?

anyways i was wondering if there are any good books on engine building and/or tuning? like an engine building for dummies. searched the forum could not find much on the topic. i want to put a stroker together in the future and want to expand my knowledge about the subject. i looked at amazon but i don't really know what books are any good or where i should start.

    this one looks ok

but is there anything bmw specific?

if any one has any recommendations it would be great!
    thanks guys!

yeah thats the project i have in mind. it will be a while from now, but i want to know what im doing before i dive into it. the more i can do my self the less i will have to spend.
do you know of any good info sources? i could read threads all day and learn almost nothing. no one really does detailed enough write ups.
maybe i should post this in a different section or try and have someone move it for me...
i have done a fair amount of reading on m20 strokers, and i know whats parts i will be needing, where i can get them, and how much $ is involve din them but i am still vague on the finer details of taking an engine apart and putting it back together.
i know i can find all the torque specifications and special tools i will be needing in my e30 service manual.
i just want everything to be crystal clear.
does no one know of any media (dvd's, books, threads/web pages) that go into detail on this topic?

All you really need to rebuild an engine is a few cans of good spray paint. I'd recommend going with a reputable brand such as Wurth, but if you're on a budget I'd take a look at the nearest Target. With a bit of practice in can control and even distribution you'll be able to achieve results like this.

I can't recommend any engine building books, threads, or yawn-worthy pictures, but I can recommend the Boxwrench video: http://boxwrench.3dcartstores.com/Ba...DVD_p_0-8.html

I bought it when I was planning a Windsor rebuild and friggin' love it.

the best way to learn the basics it to find some one throwing out a old 5 hp (or similar) powered lawn mower that is blown up or just not working. Buy the book and tear it apart and rebuild it with all new parts and what not. Then you have a good lawn mower for your house or sell it an recoup you investment.

Now not to say just because you rebuilt a lawn mower means you can now build a high performance car engine. It will just get your hands dirty and introduce you to how things fit together and work, and things like that. That is how I got my start, fixing my toys and other power equipment as a kid for extra money to fix my toys.
