So, here's an interesting tale of woe I thought I'd share with you all.
A couple months ago, I make the painful decision to be an adult, and sell one of my favorite posessions; my '99 Ducati M900, to fund flipping cars for profit. Some of the cash from the sale was used for the other projects, but I kept $2k to build a bankroll from.
Bellisimo! :(

A buddy of mine from Raleigh, who I've known for the better part of 9 years or so calls me ~ a month ago, and is need of money for lawyer fees after getting into some legal trouble. I didn't get into too much detail with him on what had happened, but since I just sold the bike, and I know and trust the guy, I offered to loan him some $$ to help him out. He insists that he won't take a loan, but would be more comfortable selling me something. So he sells me his modified '00 Jetta VR6 for $2k.

In about 1 weeks time, I flip the Jetta to a somewhat local guy for $3500, without even picking the car up from Raleigh. My buddy offers to deliver the car for a cut of the profit, which I have no problem with. After some drama with getting the title, parts, and other car, the car gets delivered to the new owner. My buddy is supposed to shoot me my cut of the cash ($3k) within the week.
My friend disappears off the face of the planet. Won't answer his phone, no one's heard from him/seen him. At this point, I already assume the worst, and figure some/most of my money is gone, but I have a back-up plan. I figure if the $$ is NLA, I'll insist he gives me back the beautiful '88 VW Scirocco I sold him a couple years back that's just been sitting in storage ever since. I could really use the money, but I really loved that damn car. But I have to find him first.
The 'rocco;

After some sleuthing, I find out his location; jail. Three felony charges for drugs with intent to sell (dope and cocaine), along with 2 previous arrests amounting to a total of 3 misdemeanors, and 4 felonies. Don't think I'll be seeing him any time soon.
So, I'm out all my side-business cash. I effectively just gave away my beloved motorcycle for nothing, and I have no money to build off of. Not only that, but more than likely, the police have frozen everything linked to the guy, meaning I couldn't even go and get my old car back. Fucked.
As a last resort, I have the contact info for his folks. His mother just had open-heart surgery in the middle of all this, so I really don't want to involve her at all. But I'm going to try to speak with his step-father, and see if we can't figure something out. I'm not holding my breath though..
