I used to work for Fleetwood Travel Trailers for four years. The stick and tin units as you said "slapped together" is pretty much true. Now for the fiberglass/aluminum frame units. They are alittle better built. They told us that we was one of the top quality travel trailer builders. Eventhough i know what we did to them. And after seeing our competitors trailers, i know why we was one of the better companys. Their trailers looked subpar compaired to ours. Fleetwood did file chapter 11 bankruptcy here last month.

Whatever brand you buy, look it over inch by inch top to bottom. Thats all i have to say.

OP I am trying to decide weather to go with a 34-38 foot race trailer with living quarters in the front half or go 32-38 foot full on fifth wheel travel trailer.

I dont know much about pick up bed campers other than they are too small for my needs.

How big a truck do you have??? Why not get a T.T. or a fifth wheel, as you will have much more useability an get more camper for a 1/2 ton or smaller truck.

Ok whats your point???? Mine used to be scared to death of pulling a trailer, after she was forced to pull one shes not scared of it any more and will even pull the big horse trailer (32 foot on the floor GN 4 star) with out a second thought. She still has a little trouble backing up some times, but 99.999999% of the time while on a road trip you will never have to back so long as you pick your fuel stops carefully.

Not banging on your choice of just getting a truck camper, just saying she will never learn to not be intimidated by it all if she never gets the chance to do it. A 3/4 ton dodge is plenty of truck so you will be fine in most anything you get other than the largest truck campers but I thing you will have a hard time finding one that will sleep 6 comfortably
