Our current dog was a rescued stray. Someone dumped it as a puppy, probably because he was a chewing fool...

If it were up to my wife, our house would be full of stray animals, luckily it's full of car parts and we don't have the room... :-)

So yeah, if we saw a dog in danger we would try and help.

yahh id stop. i hate animal abuse soo much. i wish people would just not get pets if they are gonna suck at taking care of them. for those of you who think saving a dog isnt worth risking your life, think about how if you get the dog off the freeway you might be preventing a major car wreck that could end multiple peoples lives. i for one dont think many people would know how to react to hitting a dog going 60 and that would lead them to swerving uncontrollably causing a huge wreck.

off topic: but last summer my engine crew and i found a abandoned dog on a mountain road and it was starved and looked like it had been beaten up and shit. felt terrible for it so we fed it our lunches and took it to a no kill shelter. some people are fucked in the head for doin that kinda of stuff

I would stop, Collar or not. done it before. I almost "saved" a german shepard pup but she ran away and i was not fast enough.

I am not a "Dog Guy", but don't dislike them either.

I still don't wanna see them die by car.

Did you bring her to V@V? If so, believe I patted her and chatted with you for a little while.

I voted no. I love animals (have 2 dogs, including a 3-legged lab who lost a leg to cancer and 3 cats), but I know somebody who watched an entire family of 4 die because a nice guy was trying to get a dog on the freeway and an idiot driver was speeding and couldn't stop in time. It wasn't technically the animal lover's fault, but I will bet he feels pretty lousy. And I bet the relatives of the dead family would prefer that he didn't try to get the dog.

I'm sure they prefer that the driver didn't endanger their family by speeding, too. The dog didn't have control of the situation. The driver did.

Anyways, so maybe 2 sundays ago I was in this situation. A dog with a collar was on a VERY busy freeway. He had somehow got himself onto the inside shoulder. I put on my flashers way in advance - rode halfway in the passing lane and half in the shoulder (which was 2 lanes wide) and tried to keep the dog from running into traffic. I got him calmed down and was about to get out of car onto the shoulder to get him when some bitch in an SUV decides it's a good idea to pass me on the shoulder. She runs over the dog right in front of me. It was extremely graphic and tragic. The lady proceeded to bitch at me and use flagrant hand gestures until she realized what happened. I took off before she could apologize. I hope she thought it was my dog. I really can't get the image out of my mind. It's been replaying in my head over and over again ever since.

damn dude, sorry you had to see that. I've rescued many animals from roadside/canals/lakes. Thank god never had to witness what you did though. I probably wouldn't be able to get the image out of my head either.

It occured to me that several hundred people must have passed this dog before I did and apparently no one stopped. I was really curious if it was just apathy or something having to do with texas.
