i went in to try and please my dad. i was a punk ass kid at 18 with no direction. my dad was a badass ex marine and so was his dad. the marines gave me discipline but also allowed me to hone my drug addiction an spiral out of control. it had nothing to do with the marines but rather how messed up i was. i still value what i learned in there and have really great memories of traveling all over the world and banging hundreds of ho's. i wish i could go back and do it all over again sober and clear headed with a dump truck full of condoms.

I took whatever test the recruiters have you do, and was ready to sign my name right before I graduated high school. The recruiter then learned that I had had a bone graft done on my knee and informed me that the Marines were no longer interested in me.

I was upset at the time, and my mom was ecstatic. Now that I look back, I am happy I wasn't able to do it.

it may be harder for you to "conform" to their expectations at your age.
the older you get, the more set you are in your ways.
if you are willing to let go of some of that, it might not be a bad move. it is a steady career, as long as you don't get killed.

have you shot the idea at your wife?
you would get health care, etc for her an d the baby too if you joined.

They ask you but if there's no way to verify it just tell them what they want to hear. Be aware that you WILL get drug tested when you go in to process at the MEPs though. If you don't have any major felonies you can probably get a waiver for it. The marines and army are much more lenient on those kind of issues than the navy or air force.

My parents and wife would cut my balls off if I was considering this. And my wife is cool with everything I do. In other words, I do basically what I want except shit that would possibly kill me. I dont have to ask her permission for stuff but this ones a big one ya know? haha Im thinking it may help me with my impulsive tendencies. Ive always not given a fuck and done what I wanted, but shit Im almost 30. Im no in high school anymore and I need to get rid of that shit. I still have that side of me.

Cool. Drug testing is fine by me.

Let's see... ummm almost 13 years in, and STILL haven't had the opportunity to go to the war. Not that I'm avoiding it... It's all about the job, man.

Choose your rate, choose your fate. That's a sailor saying, but applies here, too. Rate = job.

As far as your drug history... I'll call a recruiter friend of mine.
You know, there's waivers for EVERYTHING, and if your recruiter is desperate for a contract, it'll happen.

i lied my ASS off at MEPS.

"no sir, never used drugs of any kind."

i imagine somewhere in the process that set off someone's BS detector, but what they ultimately care about is whether or not you piss clean while you're there.

when i joined in '06, i went to basic with guys who had waivers for everything up to and including manslaughter. from what i'm hearing waivers (and enlistment bonuses) are getting scarcer, because are personnel requirements are less demanding now that leaving iraq is on the horizon (and also the shitty economy is making recruiters' jobs easier).

do what you will, but admitting using drugs at MEPS may affect your ability to get security clearance down the line, and a lot of jobs in the military require that.

Im just thinking something drastic may get my ass into full-potential mode. Ive always been the opposite person to go into that line of work, but Im also finding out that I seem to be the opposite person to live life normally and make disciplined decisions of any sort. Im almost fucking 30 and I dont have a great deal to show for it. Granted I spent most of my adult life fucking around.
