Compared to most GM products IMO Saabs are quite superior in quality, apart the big troubles with late 90's and early 00's breather system and poor turbo chargers, which both are considered to be solved by simple upgrade in breather system. There was not a real recall about this, but many customers got upgrade and new turbo free many years after the car warranty was expired.

That was a major problem, but quite nothing compared e.g. to BMW m57d30 swirlflap flaw which has caused many completely destroyed engines under 150Kkm in Europe and BMW usually refuses to participate the costs in those cases.
Got to love the goodwill that comes when owning a saab.

Particularly the late 9000 is a rock solid car. It just oozes quality.
Myself, I would love to have a early 16v 900 turbo. I just can´t bring myself into having two enthusiast cars.

Another thing I hate about the later cars is the constant facelifting.
Like the 9-5,that was released in ´97. It´s still basically the same car today, with a facelift. Thank you very much for that, GM...

The concept of the saab is great, the pre-GM saabs were amazing cars. The heritage behind the marque is exceptional, however, GM managed to ruin what was once a great company. They did this by cheaping out on production standards, just like they have with the rest of their lines.

I think this report by JD Power speaks for itself. Saab is well below industry average, only slightly above land rover, suzuki and kia.

Now look, I am not evil. My loan officer said so.

I've had to deal directly with two Saabs. A 900 and a 9-5 and both of them were garbage. Incidentally both were GM-era vehicles. The 900 had horrible electrical problems, interior and exterior lights working intermittently and the battery would drain in a matter of days. The 9-5's interior fell apart and then it blew a headgasket. Granted these are only two anecdotes but when my entire experience with Saab is wrapped up in those two cars what am I supposed to think? I'm assuming the 900's issues were due to some finger-bang mechanic but the 9-5 was well maintained as far as I know.

And here is the statistic for Sweden from last year. It´s an index over how pleased the owners was of the car. http://www.kvalitetsindex.se/index.p...sk=view&id=140
