    DVD Video Screen Capture suggestions?

I have a few DVD's with important frames, (Family members on old TV shows/Movies) and I would like to pull an image to print/frame for them from those scenes. What and how should I go about this?

Depends on what video card you have. If you don't know the print screen button on your keyboard should work if you aren't running a codec with too many layers. Then you open up MS paint and go to edit>paste and your pic should show up.

Well, dvd resolution is 720x480 in ntsc and i think 720x576 in pal... so that's going to be your size of image capture before doing anything re-sizing etc.

DvdShrink or DvdDecrypter should give you an option to save a frame iirc

You can't print screen dvds like that (w/o help of 3rd party screen capture application or turning off video overlays and/or hardware acceleration etc.), you can play it back in powerdvd and the like and hit the screen capture button though.

                    An image that is 720px x 720px would print at 10 inches x 10 inches at 72dpi.

Use that as your reference. And since it (sounds) like amateur footage, you're probably going ot have alot of artifacting and what not.

Let me know if you run into trouble.

Sounds good about the size, I don't want to blow up posters or anything, just something to frame for the wall of artifacts from the days of yore.

No, not amateur footage, digital re masters of Star Trek and a few other 60's-70's series, and a scenes from Hawaiian Elvis movies.

IIRC, QuickTime allows you to pause and print screen.

                        Check and see.

You can't do it on DVD's because of DVD decryption, layering issues usually aren't an issue anymore these days. Get any un-official dvd player like media player classic or VLC, both will let you save screencaps

Should be fine then, if they're professionaly mastered then you should get pretty good results, if you can manage to find them on HD-DVD or BluRay (fat chance I know) the resolution they come out at are gonna be much higher.
