    Amplifier problems....

My wife got me a new fender champ amp "600" for christmas 2 years ago (the little 2-tone retro looking amp, for living room purposes;)). I was playing away and it went "sspppsssbbbbtttt". The gt6v6r (I think its the power tube) was glowing bright purple and went out. I changed the tube and still nothing. All I hear is very faint noise through the speaker. Both tubes are glowing orange and the speaker works (checked it w/ my blues jr. amp). I don't know much about tube amps and am not really sure where to start. If anyone has any experience w/ similar issues please let me know. I really miss the sound of the amp :(
My wife didn't buy the extended warranty so guitar center wants 100 bucks to look @ it and I am feeling cheap

Fuse was/ is good. Just tried it again and it makes a crackling/ pop (softly) at high volume and thats it. Its quite frustrating

I would bet that you could find a tbe tech in craigslist.

Pray you find a Russian, likely age 50+.

Hey, there is a large resistor on the botton of the bread board that the tube plugs into that commonly breaks due to a cold solder (happened on a Jolida amp of mine). I would highly suggest to check this resistor before doing anything else. If you are not comfortable with this, do not open a tube amp they have large amounts of power that can kill you.

Of course. I only try to use tube gear. All my guitar gear is tube and my 2 channel amp is a Jolida 302B (EL34), which I am soon going to convert to run JJ 6V6s. The 6V6 is my hands down favorite tube followed by the 6L6. I am not a EL34 kinda guy, but I got a smokin deal on the amp.

I so want a 6 channel (tri-amped) 300B OTL system: I made babies with the wrong woman and will never ever have any monies.

I like the smoothness of the EL34, but would not mind something more "robust" and less smeared.

If that was no good, would it prevent the tubes from glowing? Currently they both glow orange. If I unplug it I lessen my chances of getting zapped;) My uncle has been working on tube jukeboxes since the 60's so I could have him look @ it but I would hate it to be something dumb (he can be a bit of a prick). Thanks for the suggestions so far

If you think just unplugging it can help you, you need to learn about electronics (and the voltage/amperage still in an amp after being 'unplugged.' And no, the tube will still glow. You need to do a LOT of research before you begin to poke around on this amp.

Gotcha. Perhaps I will look @ something other than e30 crap on the net. Any good suggestions where to start (other than Google)?
