I can respect the talent, but I fucking HATE virtually anything like Iron Maiden. I listen to a huge variety of music, but I just cannot do hard rock.

Queensryche is about as close as I can get, unless you count AC/DC or Van Halen (no Hammy Sagar, thnx) but I do like Nazareth.

On the other hand, do any of you serious IM fans like Opera?

used to love them, not so much anymore.
a gripe I have about them is it seems like even their best albums have filler, which isn't acceptable. but when they get it right, they get it right
but i think Killers is their best album.

In the grand scheme of things and modern music, they have longevity with quality instead of the Stones who were awesome but havent had a relevant/great album since the late 70's IMO.

Its funny you posted this because I've been listening to them a lot lately for the first time since High School (Circa 1983).

Im always glad to re-open peoples musical horizons as has been done to me many a time.

Bruce Dickinson has some of the most amazing vocals in existence, Steve Harris murders that bass, Dave Murray is the ultimate guitar shredder, and Nicko McBrain is just freakin awesome all around!!

Iron Maiden kicks ass because:
Their "twin lead" (actually three leads) guitar sound
the intellectual and intelligent lyrical content
long songs packed with diverse instrumentals
they do not follow the cookie-cutter song format of most popular bands
Bruce's INSANE air-raid siren vocals

for some awesome twin-lead sound (and no rhythm guitar, which is AWESOME), listen to "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner"

For an EPIC masterpiece (over 14 mins) listen to "The Ryme of the Ancient Mariner" yes, it's spelled like that.

For a kick-ass song which is pretty much a history lesson, listen to "Alexander the Great"

For some AWESOME instrumentation listen to "To Tame a Land" (And if your are a Dune fan)

Iron Maiden, Killers, The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Somewhere in Time, Fear of the Dark, and Brave New World. I have been into Iron Maiden since I was in 8th grade unbelievably and they still kick ass. Find torrents for those albums. Do it now.
