R3v: Help me lighg my water heater

I had a gas leak this morning so I turned the gas off and fixed it. Now I can't get the pilot light going again. I have a piexoelectric igniter and it won't spark. I can't find any info on this part online - I don't even know if they wear out. I'm wondering if I can just jumper the wire with something? I don't know - but I haven't showered today and I feel gross. The hurricane on the summer really burned me out on cold showers.

    Fuck!

Can you just light it with a lighter and bypass the electric?

There's a giant sign on the tank that says not to do that. Additionally, I only have a window through which to look. I don't have an easy way to get the lighter in there.

Did you find anything under Piezoelectric?

This is for a reliance water heater, I think its to rebuild it? I don't know, it's too long :P

They wear out, they are the same as those grill lighter switches.

x2, I was gonna say the same thing about the barbecue igniter. You can use one out of a electric spark lighter, or, you CAN remove the panel in the front with 1/4" or 3/8" IIRC. Just set it to pilot on the top valve, light one of those long lighter things, shove it in, get the pilot to light, hold down the button for aprox. 30 seconds, watch the thermocouple heat up, then it will fire the main burner, and it will ignite, then lastly, turn valve to ON.

Patrick, pull the little sparker switch out, clean the contact to make sure it is well grounded to the frame it is mounted in.

99% of the time, this is the fix for the shitty BBQ sparker, too.

Thanks for the info guys. I fitted an igniter from a BBQ pit and it worked like a charm.
