    Project laptopz

I had a Compaq NC8000 for about 5 years now, it finally started getting to slow for me. Didn't help that the original HD blew so I stuck a 10 year old 4200 rpm 10gb drive in it, then also jacked 1/2 the ram (leaving me with 128mb) for another project.

A while back, my boss got a macbook of some flavor. He said if I moved all of his shit to the new laptop I can have his old one for free.

This one is a 17" HP dv8000 (well its really not, but thats a whole new story) problem was it was slower than what I was in the market for, and the CPU fan was grinding pretty bad.

I've been using it, but I finally got around to upgrading it.

    Before:

    Core Duo T 2250 1.7ghz 2mb L2
    1GB DDR2 something
5400 RPM HD I took out to save, went to Best Buy and got a 250GB WD 5400.

    After:

    Core 2 Duo T7400 4mb L2
    4GB DDR2 something
    7200 500gb seagate.

I figured this would be a quick swap..... it was not..... at all...

Here's some pics I took of the mayhem

Have to be SUPER organized to keep all the fucking screws straight

    Old CPU

    Old Fan

    So much fucking dust!!!

It was at this point I realized I bought the wrong fucking CPU. I thought this was a BGA but turns out it was a PGA. So I had to order another fucking CPU

So in my down time, I figured I would shave the HP logo...

Shaved, painted, and put all back together...

happily running windows 7 64 bit right now. I don't know if I like it though... I may go back to ubuntu.

nice system! I like the shaved look. much cleaner, and technically it's a custom computer now anyways.
