I have a voilin that is finished in a nasty orange color. I really would like for it to have a much darker varnish on it. Is it as easy as sanding it down and refinishing it or am I crazy? It's either this or I'm going to sell it ant get a better one. I feel like I'm playing a traffic cone with this thing.

As someone who has apprenticed with a violin maker, changing the finish will kill the value. If you don't care, that's fine, but it's a difficult job. Whatever you do, don't use stripper! Also, it will change the tone slightly. Depending upon the style of music you play, that may or may not be a problem. If you are all electric, just sand it, and spray over the orange!
