    My Bike Build

    Howdy,
So I have decided that as a proper city dweller I should build bicycle. And with the e30 mostly sorted, I need another project.
I have been riding Rolla1990's spare bike for a while and am pretty taken with the simplicity and utility of a single speed bike. I often ride my wife's 21 speed trek around the city and never find myself needing more than a single gear. I also have ridden another friend's fixed gear. Although I can understand the appeal, I don't think it is what I am looking for.
I know there are ton's of old bikes in thirft stores that could provide a good base for my project, but I figured I would be a little more bourgeois. Today, I stopped in at our local bike shop asked some questions and looked at a couple used frames in the basement. We found a pretty decent old schwin frame, so I bought it.
I now have the following items:

58cm Schwin frame in good physical condition.
    Good condition fork.
Front and rear brakes, no lines or brake handles.
A set of conventional drop handlebars.

My plan is to sand down the frame and fork and give them a respray. Currently my color thoughts are:
    1. Bronzit
    2. Flat / Satin Black
    3. laguna seca blue
    4. dakar yellow
I have gotten used to the persuit bars on Don's bike, so I will probably chop the current bars and use those.
I think I will keep both front and rear hand brakes.

So, the list of items to research and aquire follows:
Crank and rear hub. I have been riding a 45-16 and have found it to be a pretty good ratio for me.
    Brake lines and handle assembiles.
    Wheels/Tires
    Seat (I am thinking leather)

If anyone has some helpful info/sites for a bike noob please feel free to point me in the right direction.

I'll take some pics and update this thread with my progess and experience.

Awesome man. I'm in the process of trying to sell my mtn bike so that i can build something very similar!

I'm going to build a flip flop most likely. Let us know how it goes.

one idea would be to run just a rear derailleur. This would eliminate alot of the stress on a bike, especially one that you are building from scratch. You would also be able to switch out the front sprocket to change up your ring count till you find one that works for you(depending on the type of cranks you get) Alot of DH bikes are built this way, as is mine, and I find that it workd out very well.
