Dual vs Quad core gaming PC

I decided to buy a new PC for home use and some gaming capabilities. I'm not looking for the latest and greatest but something that will play today's games and will hold up for a few years. I was looking at a few PC's and some were dual and quad cores. Is a quad marginally better than a dual?

Core i7 920 and throw in a good graphics card like a GTX260.

So needless to say, quad core.

It won't necessarily be faster but it will run certain things better under load.

for gaming, it's better to get hardware with high clock speeds, such as:

intel e8600
gtx 275 or gtx 285

most games don't require huge amounts of memory, just speed to crunch the information and keep your framerates up.

You need a combination of a good graphics card and a good processor. Unless you're running heavy loads you probably won't see a major difference between a 3.2GHz Dual Core and a 2.8GHz Quad. The quad core is always going to be better than the Dual just because of it's build, if you have the money then I would buy the Quad and get a good graphics card (over $150 at least)
