I think it's because they are basically shunned by popular society, that they find solace in this forum among other people with their condition.
It's just extremely sad, but disgusting as well.

It's exactly the same as "Pro-ana" sites. They Conglomerate with others who share their sickness and then outwardly express pride in it while inside it's killing them physically and mentally. It is extremely sad.
