    Felipe Massa accident.

    **Youtube took down the video**

Felipe Massa was driving around 170 MPH when a loose spring bounced off the track and struck him in the face. Incident starts at 0:30, replay at 1:49.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa will be brought out of a coma to have a brain scan in a Budapest hospital today after suffering head injuries in a horrifying 170mph crash during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Six days after Henry Surtees, the teenage son of legendary racer John, died as a result of being hit by the detached wheel of a rival car in a Formula Two race at Brands Hatch, Massa, 28, was also hit by stray debris, a rear suspension spring that had fallen off Rubens Barrichello's Brawn car.

The spring - they can weigh as much as one kilo - struck the Brazilian on the front-left side of his helmet yesterday, causing him to career off the track, on to grass and then into a tyre wall at the Hungaroring.

Wild stuff, so he was actually going 175 mph? Damn, he was getting ready to brake not too long after the spring hit him, so I would have guessed about 130 mph. Either way, getting a spring in the face at any speed probably hurts like a mother.

          Get well soon Felipe.

No, he never moved once the tire hit him. They restarted the race (for the 3rd time) after they emergency car took him

They said they're not sure if massa was conscience right after he got hit because supposedly he applied the brakes slightly and downshifted, but if you watch the video, there's no way he's conscience because he doesn't attempt to steer away from the wall at all, he just plows straight into it.

he was definetly braking right after the spring hit him, he could've become unconcious few seconds after that, but in the video you could see that he was braking initially

Upon impact, his arms/hands seem to fly around uncontrollably within the cockpit. My bet is the turbulence from the grassy patch he went over awoke him enough to apply the brakes before hitting the wall. I think it knocked him out too much for him to steer away from the barrier.
