    Glad to be alive...

PERFECT WEATHER DAY HERE!! Mid 70s now, 43% humidity, breezy, I can already feel Fall in the air. Reminds me of being at Ole Miss, always beautiful weather there! Ole Miss football, the Grove, beautiful young ladies, tailgating, parties, swaps, the greenery, etc. Great times!

Sidenote: Sam Adams Octoberfest is officially on the market now too! How do I know?? I picked up two cases last night, whoot whoot!!! It is arguably the best beer known to man.

Some days, you're just damned glad to be alive.

Although Portland has the most microbreweries in the world, which makes it difficult to buy much else than the local stuff, I've always been pleasantly surprised by Sam Adams stuff. I'll have to check that beer out for sure. I even have some of the special Sam Adams glasses to go with it.

    Cheers!

I'd love to have some of your microbrews and I'm sure they're fine. Octoberfest is just a perfect beer, and I think the fact that it only comes around for a limited time once a year, keeps it special.

I have to say I'm pretty glad to be alive. We've all got our problems, but overall life's pretty good. My kids are at fun ages where it's easy to do stuff and they're not too obnoxious. We went to Sea World last night just to get out of the house and it was nice. I know I'm just going to get older, get some diseases and die eventually, so I'm glad I can enjoy today:

You sir, just hit every thought I was having! I love Sam Adams, especially Octoberfest and their winter brew! But lately its been Scotch and Cigars on the deck smoking cigars with the chiminea fired up watching the sunset. It's definitely GREAT to be alive!

Well I quit smoking 7 years ago, so I can't enjoy that with you, but I do know what it was like. The chiminea days were so awesome, we used to sit out and stoke that thing for hours. I guess maybe I need a new one.

I think that makes four people on r3v that are glad to be alive. I think the rest are super pissed off about gun laws and racist liberals. I'm glad to be in the glad to be alive group.

Haha, I think the weather has a lot to do with how ya feel. Around here it was humid as heck, upper 80s, and pretty uncomfortable outside. But, when the weather turns and the humidity disappears, that is when you're glad just to mow the lawn and sip some quality brew.

I'm not sure if you get Harpoon down there, but Harpoon makes a pretty satisfying Octoberfest as well. I prefer it to Sam Octoberfest. The pumpkin ales are starting to hit the shelves, too! :D

Happy here as well, weather has been suprisingly mild the last few days. Mid to upper 80s and low humidity, mostly sunny.

Usually this time of year around here is muggy and 96-103ish.

I read this article this morning and agree with it for the most part:

A few researchers are looking again at whether happiness can be bought, and they are discovering that quite possibly it can - it’s just that some strategies are a lot better than others. Taking a friend to lunch, it turns out, makes us happier than buying a new outfit. Splurging on a vacation makes us happy in a way that splurging on a car may not.

“Just because money doesn’t buy happiness doesn’t mean money cannot buy happiness,” says Elizabeth Dunn, a social psychologist and assistant professor at the University of British Columbia. “People just might be using it wrong.”

Dunn and others are beginning to offer an intriguing explanation for the poor wealth-to-happiness exchange rate: The problem isn’t money, it’s us. For deep-seated psychological reasons, when it comes to spending money, we tend to value goods over experiences, ourselves over others, things over people. When it comes to happiness, none of these decisions are right: The spending that make us happy, it turns out, is often spending where the money vanishes and leaves something ineffable in its place.
