'Hate to burst your bubbles, but I was timing cars on Thunderbolt at NJMP this weekend. Of interest to me were the SpecE30/ITR guys running in Pro-IT... with the fast turn 2 config (no chicane) these guys were turning consistent 1:38, :39's. The leaders in RX7's and E36's were in the 1:32 range as tanks emptied.

Then came the TDI Cup races; spec Jetta TDI's, prepared, only differences are the drivers and the stickers. Whispering by (they are eerily quiet) the leaders were turning :35's like clockwork. Over a twenty lap race, that's a minute faster than the fastest built SpecE30/ITR car. DSG's no less "chasing away" the supposed performance buyers snubbing the R32.

By all means continue pointing at the mirror of tarted, lowered, widened whatever, but the facts are many of you "BMW enthusiasts" hang out in parking lots too. I'll keep tracking my DSG GTI until the E30 is finally ready because, the fact is, the bimmer is just cheap insurance for track days. Old, yes. Fun, yes. Better? Not even.

There's nothing wrong with FWD. Don't fear what you don't understand.

Dont get me wrong, I like VW's just fine, and I understand how capable FD cars can be. Ive watched Civic's decimate on the road course and autox. I have 200k miles in seat time in a 16v Scirrocco. Great car, I loved it.

The staggered wheel thing is why I made that comment.

I have been on here for a while cuz a few of my friends have e30s (and i have an e36 as well)....dont worry though i wont bother the hardcore rwd people on here ;) heres my car just cuz this is a vw thread :P......

i dont even know what an mk3 ,mk4 or mk whatever is. they dont do much for me. i did drive an old school gutted rabbit with dual webers on it that really fun though. it had a lot of character and was the first vw i actually liked

i had a dsg gti. it's a great car, but dsg simply isn't as enjoyable as a manual. i can imagine it is a benefit on the track though with the ability to focus more on steering and brake/acceleration inputs instead of clutch and shifter.

"Enjoyable" is a subjective term. ;) I took a DSG home for the night on a test drive and wasn't really a fan at first. I tried downshifting and the car bucked a little like I'd popped the clutch too soon. That was exactly what was happening... my right foot was a tick behind the beat.

When I figured that out, I tried stepping on the gas a little quicker. Bam! That was the ticket! I had a strong suspicion the car would be a hoot on track and I was not wrong.

It's still pulling double duty until the BMW is ready. I want something fun I can afford to walk away from and still have wheels to get around if I happen to turn the fun knob past 11. Enter the old 325i...

Meanwhile, the finger pointing from one make to another is nonsense. And I really don't care if you spin your own wrenches modifying your car before you roll deep to the Krispy Kreme. If you rub your car with a diaper and spend your days taking pictures of it instead of driving... you're a poser.

yeah a lot of people complain about rough downshifts but that's cuz the computer would assume you would upshift, not downshift, if you're not on the throttle. god i miss that car
