Almost got owned by an off duty cop on my first s50 test drive

Just finished my engine swap today, so I took the car out for a test drive. The car wasn't fully put back together yet, hood wasn't on, no exhaust so it's ridiculously loud. Theres a long road right by my house with open visibility so I took my car there, revved it out up to about 60-70, turn around to go home and there's this guy walking in front of my car.. He comes up and immediately says "I'm an off duty police officer, do you want a ticket?", I appologize and tell him I'm only trying to test out my car I just finished, he tells me this isn't the place to do it, there are kids out (there weren't but whatever) and I better get the hell away and he doesn't want to see me again.. I didn't think twice about driving home, didn't want to fuck with the police while I'm speeding, driving without a hood and no exhaust system.

Totally ruined the high I had from driving this thing for the first time in 2 months (and with an s50), oh well, at least I didn't get a ticket. Tomorrow I'm driving to an exhaust shop, really hope I don't run into any trouble on the way.

To the r3v morality police, yes I realize I shouldn't be speeding bla bla, it's an open road with good visibility and no one on it. It's still wrong but I don't need my balls busted, thanks.

You know what people are gonna say, so why even post this?

But sounds cool, you did all the work yourself?

99% sure he can still give me a ticket, or call one of his cop buddies and tell him what he just saw, it wouldn't exactly be hard to find a red BMW that can be heard from half a mile away with no hood... Basically, there's no reason to fuck with that situation even if he couldn't ticket me, way better off just parking the car then risking it.

And yes, I did the work myself, never done anything like this before and it was a really fun project and great learning experience.

Look guys I know it's easy to be like "Oh they couldn't stick the ticket" but honestly, who cares, it's not worth any of the hassle when I could easily just admit I'm in the wrong and drive home with no trouble. I was definitely breaking laws, I'm at fault, I'm just glad he wasn't on duty. They could easily give me a ticket for my exhaust not being legal or something if he got a cop buddy over, if a cop wants to give you a ticket they will ALWAYS be able to find something. It's MUCH easier to just be nice and leave it be then to sit there and argue with this guy that I'm not in the wrong going 70 with no hood/grill and running off the headers :-P

Haha, nice. How many people have gotten pulled over with open headers just driving to the exhaust shop? I'm curious how long people last, I'll probably feel like putting off the exhaust shop for a few days just for the hell of it.
