    Kidney stones suck

I'm pretty loopy right nowso I'll keep this short. I've been in and out of the hospital since tuesday night with a kidney stone I'm having a hard time passing. It's pretty much the worst pain ever. I've been on vicodin, flomax, a muscle relaxer and anti nausea for what seems like an eternity. The days all run together.

Thank gog for insurance though....over 24 hours in the hospital, 2 cat scans, loads of medication - all for $200.

I've had about half a dozen instance of stones between 1985 and 2001

The only good thing about them are the drugs they give you.

Mine always happened during the hot summer months, when I used to work at a physical job.

They tend to form from being dehydrated.

When I moved to a desk job in 1997, I only had the one instance in 2001, but I did extensive work around and outside of my house that summer during the hot months.

If you're going to be outdoors, in the heat, stay hydrated.

I got to the point where if I started seeing a little blood in my urine, I would drop whatever I was doing and drive to the ER, knowing that excruciating pain was soon to follow.

They would look up my med history and give me a "pre-emptive" shot of Demerol.

I was told that my first one was from being over hydrated. 140F+ and drinking 7-12 liters of water a day for almost a month straight. One day I decided to have 2 sodas for lunch and that sent my body into overdrive to get rid of shit apparently. At least this is what the doc told me.

I remember him telling me its just a little fella in there.... 2mm. I said BULLSHIT! Its a god damn Cadillac! Best I've ever got was percocet for the pain.

2mm is considered small, but when it's a sharp, jagged chunk of calcium working it's way thru your kidney and urinary tract, it hurts like a MoFo and feels a LOT bigger.

At the ER, they usually give you something strong like Demerol, take X-Rays and then determine if the stone is small enough to pass on it's own or if it will have to be blasted with Ultrasound to break it up.

If it's a smaller stone or stones, they give you Percs or Vicodin and send you home and then you wait to piss it out.
