bought a $650 vaio laptop before i left for iraq last summer expecting that it'd basically be disposable and i'd get another when i came home.

it ran all the games i tried loading up and i'm still using it now. it takes a while to read burned dvd-r's sometimes, but that's the only hiccup i ever got from it. haven't tried upgrading to W7 yet though.

EVERY Thinkpad I have purchased in the past 4 years has failed, screens, logicboard, keyboard interfaces, hinges, you name it, we are really getting tired of them and switching to HP Elitebooks.

Have not touched Dell, maybe they are better.

Apple laptops are pure garbage, I won't ever own another.
Damn, I've got a Thinkpad T42 on its original hardware from like 4 years ago that still works fantastic. My macbook I owned for about 3 years and the only thing I had serviced was a new keyboard and they had that shutdown issue on gen1 that ended up being a firmware fix.

My dell laptops have all been awesome though, i've gone through about 10 of them at the school district and here in california. They'll take some major abuse and you can't beat dell support for them when they do crap :(

It pisses me off because I love Thinkpads as well, tons of features and they just have what I want at that pricepoint, but with all the failures its just getting stupid.

HP has really impressed me with the Elitebooks, which will be my next laptop (currently rocking a Lenovo T60P, on motherboard #2) Especially as HP has a 15.4inch with a 1920 X 1200 resolution...mmmmmm :)

Get a Lattitude. Seriously on par. Dell is pretty good about issuing driver updates as well. Support is +12312345234

And while we're on topic, fuck Toshiba.
