Just wanted to say that one of my friends had positive results with the towel trick too. Not saying you should do it but just trying to give you a feel of how successful that method is.

My xbox broke at the same time as your with a E74 error (just one red light) but mine is still under the three year warranty so I sent it in last friday. I cant wait until I get it back so I can play the forza 3 demo!

f none of the above suggestions work, contact MS customer support get get a support ticket started. If your console is still under warranty DO NOT attempt to open it and fix it yourself. MS will fix it promptly and for free and if you open it you loose the free support.

Dudes and bros: My box was made in 5/06
Its totally out of warranty. In fact, this Xbox is one that came back from MS already. Doubt it was the original that was sent in, but I know I got this Xbox refurb freshly back from Microsoft. So this will be round 2 for this little guy.

Yeah those are the part numbers I got from Lowe's. I was going to grab them all but I tried the penny trick first. I'm gonna go run out and buy the parts after class tomorrow and get what I need...I can be done with it all by the time It's Always Sunny is on tomorrow if I feel up to it. I will post results...

Me and my friends have 3 xboxs that have dealt with the RROD. Penny trick to fix it the first time, then after about 4-5 months they came back. Then we tried the towel fix, and they work intermittently.

Heres my new plan:

Gonna tape up all of the ventilation holes on the box. Power it on and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Then let it cool for 20.

And see what happens.
