I think there is a problem with the whole organ transplant thing. Not knowing the specifics of this case I wouldn't comment, but this is what I think.

The way I see it, its generally accepted that if you need an organ transplant there is a good chance you may never get one due to a waiting list or something. Obviously it would depend on what you need, demand for the organ, etc...

I have watched a ton of stuff on discovery/history over the years about organ transplants, black market organs, etc... and why people wait so long for an organ. I'm not saying because I watched a few tv shows that I know exactly how this works, but it's a start.

The medical community basically will not take an organ for donation if its not 100% "perfect" which I can understand, if I wanted a heart or something, I would like to have a good one, not one out of 400lb doublecheese burger, wheelchair hover-round, eat because I'm sad guy. But at the same time, fuck if I'm going to die in 2 months because I need a new heart, I would take anything I could get to buy me some more time. Which brings me to the point for this guy. If he was immediately going to die and all they had was smoker lungs, I would take that. Would you rather die in a few days? Or buy another year? Obviously this is assuming that the guy who got the lungs knew what he was getting etc... If they just put those lungs in and never said how the doner was a smoker, then there's a bigger problem.
