What phone do you have?
I used to make ringtones like this:- get an audio editor and cut the file down to however long you want. More than 30 seconds and the call will go to voicemail for most phones/carriers, so be aware of that.
- You don't want a gargantuan file size, and phone speakers suck, so cut the bitrate as well. High quality really doesn't matter much for a phone, but if you are disappointed with the quality, raise the bit rate back up.
- If the mp3 doesn't need cutting, and your phone can handle stereo tunes, you then need to send it to your phone. For verizon, this used to work by emailing yourself the mp3 at yournumber _at_ verizonwireless _dot com or yournumber _at_ vzwpix _dot_ com. If verizon is kind, the tune will show up in your phone in under ten minutes, usually in one or two. Longer than that and Verizon is being verizon.
- If emailing doesn't work, and it no longer does for me, you have two options left. Option 1: use a usb or manufacturer supplied/purchased cable to tranfer it to your phone's memory. Simply drop the tune in with the other ringtones on the phone (search around in the phone's file directory). If the phone doesn't play .mp3 ring tones, go back to the audio editor and save the file in one that will work. Many phones that play mp3s you put on a card won't necessarily play mp3 ringtones.
- Option 2: hack the phone. This is really complicated and phone-dependent, and voids all sorts of warranties. Fun to do if you have time, but....you don't want to need to do this.
- Last bit of parting wisdom from having done this too many times. Most phones I have run into will not play ringtones you put on expansion SD cards. You have to copy it into the phone's memory, which entails option 1 or 2 above.
- Legal disclaimers: I have only done verizon phones, I hold no responsibility if your phone craps out and dies after trying this, do this at your own risk, etc etc, don't be stupid.

myxertones, you can make your own last time I checked. Just make sure anything you send to your phone is free, sometimes they charge for their stuff so you gotta steer clear of that noise, pun intended.Jah bless! :pimp:Comment
