If you plan to haul 2 bikes, your probably going to eventually haul more than that. I would go with an F150 and not have to worry about more room later. You can get them for next to nothing if you find someone wanting to just get rid of their beater truck they never use anymore.

Small trucks suck. The same fuel economy as a Full size half ton with much less utility.

        I'd pick up a Silverado with the 4.8 or 5.3 V8

^^ Good trucks, but not for hauling a couple of sport bikes.

I'd have to disagree, i have had 5 dakota's and they all have been fine trucks. And if everything here goes as planned here, i'm most likely am going to get another one.

But like others said, look at full sizes, since you want to haul around 2 sport bikes. S10 and Rangers are too small for that and the Dakota is very iffy for 2 bikes back there.

Not if your into trail trucks. I have 3 friends with late 90s rangers Lifted like crazy with mudder tires, They work great and fit 3 dirt bikes in the back of each. And my friend with the 3.0 owned it since 40k miles and now just changed the spark plugs for the first time at 215k miles, never misses a beat.

Are the 5.2 and 5.8 better?

                            I don't even think I want a V8. :dunno

                            If I'm getting a full-size, F150 vs Chevy 1500?

Really? I just sold my 2000 Club Cab, 4.7L, 5-speed stick, 4WD, 76K. Didn't really have any *real* problems with it. The brakes kinda suck (calipers stick on the sliders), but all in all... Nothing terrible.

Back on topic, I'd say go with the full size truck. A Silverado/Sierra in 2WD with a 4.8/5.3 and a 4L60E will serve you well and not cost any more to maintain than the smaller ones. The extra room would be nice and they tow quite nicely.
