    dns issue help pls!

Ok so I'm having a dns issue with one of my comps. The network connection is fine, if i open up my command prompt i can ping the dns server. but i cant ping anything else, it gives me a timed out response if I do. When I open Google it simply states that the page cannot be displayed..But if I open the google via thier IP it works fine. Cant really search for anything but it opens. The computer is connected via router and is the only one experiencing such problems. Any ideas on what it could be?
Looking for a 3.46 or lower LSD. Lets make a deal.
    LSx e36TI coming soon

Try changing your DNS servers to the open DNS servers:

    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    tasty

nothing. changed it to a couple different ones and still no go.

i was on the phone with "tech support" and they couldn't solve the prob either..took him 45 min just to tell me what i had told him in the beginning of the call "I'm having a dns issue".

i flushed it reset it. still nothing. im at a loss..

So basically you can ping ip's but you cannot resolve hostnames... Very odd, you've updated your DNS servers to open dns, flushed your dns cache with ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig @ the command prompt shows the opens DNS servers listed there?
          tasty

they're listed..but still the problem occurs..this is frustrating. i think im just going to wipe the drive and forget about it.

Don't do that yet. Are you plugged directly into your modem or are you still going in the router?

the second i had noticed the problem i killed all other possible error points. I'm directly plugged in and nothing but absolute needed programs are running. Reterminated my patch cable, went from public to static IP with open dns servers. back to public ip with open servers. back to my normal servers.

oh and I can remote into a program needed for work on this comp from another computer on a diff network. explain that one..

Wiping your drive will do nothing.. You are routing through IP, so the routing tables are fine and it's just a DNS issue. Your OS is working..

I would try even more open DNS's or just let you modem power off for 30 minutes. Make it rebuild all routing tables. It sounds like an ISP problem to me.

I was on the phone with the tech from the ISP and nothing(they generally tend to know alot less than i do)..plus it woulndt explain it working on the other comps on my network and not this one.

The only thing I could think of would be to remove the network adapter totally, let it re-install and re-build the TCP/IP stack along with it..

Yea... you haz a virus homie :)

it kills your host file and sends any http request to a dns (anything NOT an IP address) to a virus website. You can literally clear out your host file (forget where it is) but it will come back. Virus scanner!

                          Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

Hmmm.. Either a virus that is DNS spoofing or your network stack is totally fuckin hosed.
You tried removing the NIC from Device Manager and rebooting?
