Onstar is gay, my friend got into a car accident where a guy in a hayabusa rammed them head on and went thru the windshield. The battery was disconnected and ONSTAR didnt work. Luckily there was other cars around if not he would have been dead.

Think they left it plugged in just to make it more popular. OnStar is a great system when used in good context, now when it narc you out to Police and Feds for modify the vehicle or entering a drag race well that's bad.

OBD II has many of these Nanny trackers in it as well. Can log vehicle data much like an airplane black box.

Insurance institute wants to be able to have police data log the obd II boxes after an accident and assess guilt from there.

Or boycott all manufacturers who put onstar on all of their cars. I agree with you, if I had a car that had it, it would come out real quick.

So, picture this. You get the itch to start some chaos at around 3AM local time. You snatch up your stolen shotgun, load a few slugs in there and roll out with a mind to come home in a shiny new vehicle. As fate would have it, you choose to carjack a 2009 Chevy Tahoe, and while everything seems kosher at first (look, there's even a half-full bottle of Coke Zero over there!), the mighty V8 just seems to be struggling all of a sudden. As the horrifying reality sets in (you know, the one that involves the accelerator not functioning any longer), you're left with no choice but to curse OnStar's Stolen Vehicle Slowdown feature, which has just nabbed its first-ever criminal. As the Tahoe slowly grinds to a halt, you make a fruitless dash and topple into a swimming pool before being apprehended soaking wet, and even though OnStar took just 16 minutes to return the vehicle to its rightful owner, at least you'll go down in history as the first one to fall victim to the system. Here's to you, unfortunate carjacker -- next time, go for a lawnmower. Humiliating video is after the break.

yes it logs that it they also have a "balck box" that records somrthing like a 1 min loop in case of a accident they have engine, break, steering in put, blahhh blahhh blahhh data. Is it used yes and if you get into a wreck, know the location of that box and remove it if yuo are able. That is your property and no one has a right to search that property till they have a warrant to do so.
