    my grate grandmother died yesterday

she was 96 years old. yeahs she was born in in germany back in 1913.
here is a link to events in 1913.

i think it is crazy to think about the fact that when she was growing up most everyone in germany still used horses as transportation and she lived threw wwl and wwll. she saw a lot of shit go down.
she was a lovely woman with a huge hart. i loved swimming in her swimming pool and taking walks in the forest with her.
    this was her home town.

i am both sad and happy that she past away. sad that i will never be able to see her again and happy because i know she lived a full life to the best of her ability and helped many people out.

Sorry to hear that, sucks big time. 96 is a long life, always a good feeling to know someone didn't miss out on a lot of things by dying young.

RIP, sounds like she lead a full life.

OT, but my great aunt who was also born in Germany (Breslau) and survived both the wars is turning 97 tomorrow. She lives in Berkley, CA.

my grandmother from my dad's side dies about 8'ish years ago at 96. same thing, although she was born here shortly after her family moved here from Scottland, she would tell me stories about Texas, indian raids, farming and ranching, driving to AZ from Texas as a teenager with her sisters in the back and her parents in a truck behind them, having to haul water in burlap bags for the radiator. even when she came down with alsheimers the stories were great (i just had to ask my dad for clairification). she lived a very full life, she raised 3 boys and 1 girl, taught at a school for waywerd girls, graduated from ASU (Tempe Teachers Collage at the time), had 15 grandchildren and lived on her own for about 45 years after my grandfather died.

now there is only 1 sister surviving and 1 of her kids left (my dad, the youngest). make the most of your time with your older family members, eventually they will be gone

              sorry for you loss.

                thanks guys.
i learned a lot from her. about life and about my family. the last time i saw her she told me all about her brothers. sadly most of them died in wwll in the navy. u-boats were floating death traps... i also learned that people in my family aided the german partisan movement. she helped me threw some hard times while i was working in germany.
old people really are the best to talk to.

the owner of the restaurant that i'm a chef at is a 83 year old woman, polish holocaust survivor. she was taken from her home when she was 8 years old and forced to work at a nazi labor camp. she butchered cows and pigs all day at 8 years old. she's one of the most interesting people i have ever talked to in my life. she's like a second grandmother to me

its crazy to think the things and social changes they went through too. think about what was acceptable back then and what isnt now. living through all that i'm sure makes our society look really retarded now by comparison.

                              sorry for your loss, mate.
