how long is your trip going to be? do you want to see cities, or spend time seeing all the incredible geographical things? do you have a budget?

Can you narrow it down between west and east coast - or are you up for both?

i was thinking a big long road trip across the country bouncing around to different landmarks, but depending on the age of the kids, that could be hell.

Los Angeles. Death Valley. Las Vegas. Grand Canyon. Monument Valley. Santa Fe. Tucson's Pima aero museum. Some more desert and South West small towns. Bring a few CDs of Loyd Cole, Rye Cooder and early Dire Straight with you.

Experience over 400 aircraft, from a Wright Flyer to a 787 Dreamliner. Plan your visit and explore 6 hangars & 80 acres of aviation history.

Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

The North East has plenty of historical stuff and natural features to see. I would suggest going there if you can't spend 2+ weeks touring the farther reaches, seeing as you are in the UK, and will want to hop off the plane as soon as you see land.

cool. well as most have said, the western US is basically a roadtrip playground. south dakota has the badlands, colorado has rocky mountain national park, utah has several national parks, wyoming has yellowstone and the grand tetons, the coasts of california and oregon are absolutely stunning. pretty much every state has something worth seeing (don't forget the grand canyon in arizona). the diversity inherent in the geographical formations in the western US is incredible- you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else like it.

wherever you go, just make sure you stay on the right side of the road! :p
