However, it's rarely the case that it works out well in the longer term with that big of an age disparity.

To the OP, are you asking what is legal or what will work?

The answer to the first one is generally 18.

The answer to the second one... well, it depends. We have RC here showing us that 17 years apart ain't too much.

But like I said, that's a pretty special case. For me, anything younger than about 35 is too young. If I were you, dating an 18 year old longer than it takes to do the deed, is too long. There's too much girl left in ones that young. They'd yell at me for saying that... but 20 years later, they would agree with me. Just proves the point.
