They must teach 'em real good in Ohio . . .

Spotted as I rolled through Southern Ohio today on my way back from a court appearance . . .

Was I in some kind of vortex?

3 highways share the same road at one point. The two highways that pass through Bend do the same, 97 and 20. 20 is east/west and 97 is north south.

Still funny to see that many highways on the same road though.

Amazing. Never thought I'd live to see that.

I've seen countless examples of a N/S sharing a stretch with an E/W road. I-75 does it here in KY with I-64, and in TN does a stretch shared with I-40.

Kicker here is that I was heading on West 52 yet at the same time East on 62???!!!!!

Remember that some of those roads are well over 100 years old. Route 62 is a messed up road. It runs diagonally across Ohio and is cut up in pieces. I'm about 1/4 mile from Route 62 up here in NE Ohio. There are sections that were never completed due to political fighting. Back when Ohio was booming in the 20th century, the cities were competing with each other and they used roads to try and choke off neighboring cities. Not far from my town, 62 ends and starts back up 15 miles further. There was a big push to try and finish it back in the 70's, but the EPA put a stop to it because they said that it would be bad for wildlife. As for the east/west thing, I don't know what to say other than it's SOUTHERN Ohio.

Tru dat. Southern Ohio is really shitty.

I had to go to Portsmouth (which actually is kind of improving) - and took 52 across from Cincy. That whole route of dirty dilapidated river towns is depressing.

there's a similarly amusing stretch of freeway in the east bay of nor-cal that is 580W and 80E at the same time. i always imagine i'm driving on a mobius strip.

Out here in Southern Idaho I have 4 on one, The 20, 26, 93 and 15. I have been twisted around out here a few times, and even doubled back when I thought I ended up on the wrong road. Thank god for GPS phones.
