    Fried Turkey FTW!!

Yep, here's my bird, and all of the fixin's to get it ready to fry tomorrow. After a few years of following other assholes' recipes, I dreamed up a little Sweet Bourbon marinade concoction of my own to inject into this one. Used a similar mixture of dry-rub, and I'll let it sit overnight. Fried turkey ftw.

What do you guys do with all the left over oil? Never bothered buying a few gallons of peanut oil just to use it once.

Will be having in less than 24 hours... Using two turkeys from my backyard, I had someone else process them however. 16 and 21lbs. Bigger one is going in the oven regular family style.

Fry a few more turkeys in it. Then dump on the wet leaf pile in Jan or so to burn them off. (after you start the leaves with petrol chemicals)

Luck-kee! I was fortunate enough to hunt one Spring Turkey season in South Dakota. I didn't bag a bird, just a story. Just before dawn, a coworker and I were 25 feet apart, pushing a flat area towards what appeared to be some thin pines about 100 feet away. In the pines we saw turkeys roosted probably 4 feet above the ground. I'd never hunted them before, so I knew exactly two things: Jack and Shit. As we approached within gunshot range, we realized we on a short bluff terminating at the stand of trees the birds were roosting in. From their perspective, they were roosting in trees 15 feet above the ground. We saw them at chest level. By the time we were close enough, the light was nearly there to pull the trigger, and some fucking jackhole came bombing across the area in a shitbox pickup. The turkeys spooked, and swooped down and away from us in the blink of an eye. We chased them around for a couple of hours until we realized we were outmatched! Smart, tasty critters.

Just finished readying my turkey for tomorrow. Rubbed under the skin with a bacon fat and herb run with the pieces of bacon chopped up small and tossed in there also. Not frying this year, its going on the grill with a can of beer stuck in the center.

Had a piece of fried Turkey at work today and it was scrumptious. Never had it that way before, deep fried in peanut oil and well prepared by a co-worker.

self note: must have the wife cook one of these next year.......

                              Happy Thanksgiving you R3V turkeys!
