Look on the MS site, they have charts that explain all the differences.

Can some of you please advise me whether to buy the Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate operating systems for my new computer
    ? Price is no object.

Are the differences between them significant?

What are their advantages and limitations?

the way it detects if it's an upgrade is not by the HDD, it's by the serial number and log info on your Motherboard. That is how Microsoft detects what computers you're running on and they store that information in their database. so you should have no problem booting from the CD and doing a fresh install. Make sure to backup your files and porn collection on another computer or HDD before you re-format!

With upgrade media, when doing a clean install, you usually just need to point it during the install to the previous qualified version of the OS on the CD or HDD for it to verify that you have the previous version and then it will go on with the install. You don't have to have the previous OS installed...it just needs to verify that you do have it.

I am pretty sure you have to choose "upgrade" when booting from the CD if it is an upgrade install. You can choose to format the drive after that if you choose, which you should. If you choose custom install and then format the drive it will not be able to detect an upgradable OS and not be able to install 7. I could be wrong but I'd try this way first just in case you wipe your HD and can't install Win 7 because you have nothing to upgrade form.

It really is the best way to do an operating system install because it will basically clean any shit you have on your computer such as spyware, viruses, misc. software, etc. And return your registry to normal among other things. Your computer will run like new basically.

I first suggest backing up you files like music, movies, documents, etc.
This. and it should run even better than new
