    New bike need advice

So I'm wanting to buy a new bike to cruise around town with and be able to ride to work. I've wanted to get one for a while now but know nothing about what to get.

Basically I just want a good city cruiser not a mountain bike and not a track bike. I want something that will be comfortable for about a 5 mile ride to work/school and back about five times a week. I just want to get something that is smooth, comfortable, and most importantly quality.

I'm looking at about $300 right now and am open to used bikes as an option if they are in good shape. I'm not in a hurry due to weather and could save up more if their is a big jump in quality once you reach a certain price.

As I said I am really new to "quality bikes" and am use to just grabbing what ever is lying around to ride. I'm mostly looking for advice on styles/brands and what to avoid, I'm also interested if you have something that will fulfill my needs for sale. I'm about 5'10" 160lbs mostly torso, if that helps for what size i should get.

    thanks in advance

Sounds like you need a comfort bike. Marin makes nice ones.

Those are nice, but a little pricey for me. Looks like they go for $800-$1500+ , not really ready to spend that much until I'm sure I will get a lot of use out of it.

Jamis makes decent bikes that are around that price range.

If you are looking at used, check out older Konas, or cannondales.

Both have amazing build quality, and neither hold their value well.

If you check craigslist regularly you can find some good deals...

          etc...
May be a tad bit small, I'm about 5'10" and ride a 56 most of the time, although the geometry of the bike can make a big difference. My advice is just check CL regularly and have cash in hand, thats how I get pretty much all of my good deals. Good luck finding a bike that's right for you.
