Last time I enjoyed a movie in the theater a women brought in her newborn child to enjoy it as well. The really awesome part was when the baby started crying, Star Trek was not exactly quiet, she sat vigilantly in her seat trying to comfort the screaming baby. Yeah, I'll take my couch 99% of the time but some movies you just have to. That is, until I have the means to have a media room and I can hang out stark nekkid in my big leather chairs.Leave a comment:

So, you seem to particularly enjoy those group activities in theater where you can jerk each others off. Is that what you are refering to? ;) No thanks for me...Leave a comment:

Where the hell are these movie theaters you guys are attending? There are a number of nice and new theatres which are located in nice communities where you don't have to worry about the lack of common sense and consideration. Bottom line, there are movies that must be seen on the big screen and you don't have to go at night nor the weekend or the week of it coming out. I can relate to some of you guys' complaints but as reasons to not go enjoy a flick at the theatre, no. There are ways around it unless you just live in some small ass town...Leave a comment:

I am lucky that I have the Alamo Drafthouse within walking distance of my house. So I got comfortable seating, Good food, And great beer whenever I watch a new movie.

Most new digital theaters have comfortable reclining seatsI would rather watch the movie at home on my 50" DLP on my own comfy furniture with all of those same people, than pay $12 per person to sit in super-uncomfortable chairs at the theater. I want to be comfortable while I'm watching movies, and I never am at the theater.Leave a comment:

Going out to watch a movie with a bunch of people is a completely different experience than sitting at home, no matter how you slice it.Leave a comment:

After leaving that show I officially wanted to have me some alien sex with giant blue women.Leave a comment:

Since when IMAX 3D makes 100% of theater attendance? It accounts for one jerk-off in the sea. There will always be some novelty viewing processes, and they will have a very minor impact on the overall "big picture".Leave a comment:

Yeah, because the Hangover was such a visual masterpiece. You are basically trying to experience a live concert by calling your friend and listening to it over the phone and then saying it sucked.Moron, dumbass. Really, I'm not going to the theater to see the movie so why not get a good idea of the storyline by watching a cam version. I watched a cam version of The Hangover for about 15 minutes, in mind you horrible video and audio. On a Tuesday a promptly found movie times and was out the door. My wife and another friend enjoyed a 1:30 showing of the film and could not stop laughing. Sorry guys, I'm just not a fan of this type of film. The fantasy genre does not appeal to me. I'm out of the thread so everyone else can have a good time here. I figured with so much positive attention from the board I might like it.
Sure, polarized IMAX 3D will be outdated when we all have cable internet. Makes sense.Running a theater is extremely costly. It's fine when attendance is at full capacity, and you even make your week by just selling popcorn and soda on Saturday. But most of the times, seats are unoccupied. The current technology already allows to send films in digital high resolution directly to theaters. And soon, everyone will be able to pay and download high resolution home copies of new releases with a limited life span. It already exists in a slightly different form and in medium resolution.
So, the same way we have already stopped buying vinyl, we will stop buying CDs and will only get music from iTune online shops. The exact same scenario (pun intended) will happen to movies. Basically, it will be pure profit for film companies. They won't have middlemen anymore (theaters or movie rentals). A wire straight from the distributor to your living room.
So, when will this happen? Probably only when all of North America will be high speed internet compatible or on cable. Whoever will control the cable distribution will control entertainment at $100 per household per month... Lots of money to be made. And when analog broadcasting will be a thing of the past and that a digital standard will have been established. Therefore, it's only a few years away.Leave a comment:

Honestly, perhaps only one out of 50 movies I watch is done at a theater. I much prefer watching movies at home. You don't have to deal with endless advertizing, screening delays, morons and their 1) cellphone habits 2) eating habits 3) realtime live storytelling habits.
Theaters are soon going to disapear.
I am actually the exact same, I reserve going to the theater for a flick that that needs to be seen on the big screen to be really appreciated. The last movie I saw in the theater was Star Trek, the next will be Avatar..hopefully tonight.
I think the entire process of how movies get to us is soon going to change, its just the movie industry that is holding onto the old way of distribution. Theaters, rental stores and buying media is going to be a thing of the past, hell rental stores are just about there.Leave a comment:
