Look up their profit margin, the health industry as a whole has a very reasonable profit margin. Quit trying to demonize it.

I think it's more like the top 1%.
In theory, it works like this: 100,000 people will go without luxury yachts so that 45 million people (many of them children) can get medical treatment for things like cancer. As far as the "increased costs" argument, I really need to do some more research before I contest or retort to this. Intuitively, however, it seems doubtful that people will suffer "increased costs". Right now, 30% of the costs go into the pockets of health insurance companies. Another chunk of the costs (not sure on percentage) comes from insured people paying for the ER visits of the uninsured. Presumably, Obamacare would eliminate most of these wasted costs. So where the costs increase across the board is still kind of a mystery to me. I read the article that z31 posted, and while I agreed with a couple of things in it, I did not see any concrete evidence that costs will increase for a majority of people. What I saw were what appeared to be a couple of startling anomalies, discovered by a company that takes a vested interest in spreading anti-public-option propaganda.
You are either functionally retarded, or a good troll.

Minimize government program fraud? I'll believe that when my shit turns purple and tastes like rainbow sherbet.

You're pretty much shitting on what the country was founded upon to give people something that is not a right.

30% of costs go to the management of health care insurance and are people's jobs? You want to eliminate their jobs? After they are taking care of management of insurance and dealing with all the crap that is part of operating a business? And you think, once again, that the government could do it better? That is just plain stupid.

So Obama wants to eliminate private insurance jobs is what you are saying? And replace them with government jobs which will cost the tax payers a lot and efficiency will be driven down, innovation will be halted, etc.

Obama would eliminate those costs and eliminate those jobs associated with them adding to the numbers of people needing a hand out.

No buying yachts and private jets also takes a lot of money out of the industry that has millions of jobs tied to them.

Yes, because anyone who works for a private company which makes profit is an evil entity to the Obama administration it seems. Anyone who benefits from providing needed or demanded goods or services to people who have to budget their money to procure said items must be stopped. The government shall distribute goods more efficiently than the free market so that all can be saved from the evil capitalists.

Didn't the naive Obama also try to attack the evil oil companies who were feeding on the innocent consumers? I mean, clearly, a 7-9% profit margin is evil because they made a lot of money delivering pretty effective a product which was a victim of clearly global supply / demand issues. We ought to just regulate gas price and oil price so that everyone can keep their habits the same without worrying about the results of their demand. I know the Chinese subsidize the cost of gas, maybe we should take more hints from them since clearly it's not like the newfound growth of China has been from adopting our free market ideas...

Yes, having much around people who have less is an injustice and not what the colonies or the nation was founded upon. Who needs a pursuit for life, liberty, or property (original Locke's theory before "pursuit of happiness" was subsituted)? The government will take from you what is determined you do not need, and provide you with life per public healthcare and what they feel is appropriate, and liberty as the majority is best benefited to give you, property as the entitlement programs dictate, and happiness will be rationed as the President sees fit.

It's not like DSP74 worked in luxury boats... or my gf works in jet engines. Those jobs don't matter. Those jobs are evil because of the products are evil since not everyone can have one! Obama will ensure that all citizens will have 38/30 government issued pants made out of potato sacks so that no one will have to deal with the harsh expense of shopping for clothing and having to deal with outrageous prices on designer items which only make the evil artist rich while the poor walk in shambles.

The country grew from its infancy because the wealthy invested and had less wealthy work for them, and business owners took risk and were rewarded. Why would have anyone gone west if not to be better off than those who stayed at home where it was safe? Why give up all you have to try to find gold if it would have just been given to those who sat on the couch? Innovation, progress, and the greater utility of all has and always will be driven by personal achievement and reward of the capitalist system. Sure, maybe you want to be sad someone else took risks and after several failures and lots of hard work they succeed and make a lot of money. But that's what they get for doing something you have not. Handing over to someone who has not worked which was taken from someone who has is the downfall of the economy and the American way.

Heeter: I hope just a fraction of what you have posted in here, sinks into someones head, or at least get them to think about it longer than to spout off 1 of the 3 preprogramed responses they have in their head which is all they can rebut with. Then all your effort will have been worth something

38/30??? FUCK. I'll have to lose a few pounds.

My other problem with healthcare is that I don't want to pay for fatasses' gastric bypass. I don't want to pay for smokers lung cancer. I refuse to pay for ER to save a suicide patient. I sure as hell, don't want to encourage unplanned births in underprivileged communities (although free condoms along with AIDS would be nice). I'd hate for people to get care when they thought they could fly after seeing Matrix. I don't want meth-assholes to get dentals. I don't want crackheads to get stitched after they bashed their head against a wall for hours not feeling it.

I don't want to pay for irresponsible behavior, not even if it only costs me $1 per year. I gladly pay $45 for reality TV shows already.

Let's hope. I played some references to things you've posted from people like Jefferson, but maybe people forget what made America so great.

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor any bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government." - Jefferson

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism."

Funny you mention that idea, because I was about to talk about my friend who loves Canada's single payer healthcare program.

He's a Canadian citizen and a college student here in the States. Any doctor visit is paid in full by the Canadian government and he thinks this is pretty sweet, as would most college students who don't worry about the money they spend when it is other people's.

However, he is absolutely insane. He's a boxer, fishes for giant catfish with his bare hands "noodling" or having them bite onto his arm, he drinks more than anyone I've ever known... but if he gets hurt or beat up in a fight, or whatever... he doesn't have to deal with any of it really, and his decisions are paid for by the Canadian government. He has no incentive to be smart about what he does or anything really, since he will always be taken care of there... and here until he becomes a dual citizen (then they stop paying for stuff over here).

that's my biggest concern. People will not be held accountable for their stupid actions. US has so many diseases and conditions, that the rest of the world doesn't recognize or has to deal with.

When I was in HS there were 10 kids tops diagnosed with ADD/ADHD out of 1500 students. Today seems like every kid is on something. Either anti-depressants or concentration pill.

If government will start paying hospital bills, people can stop wearing seat-belts or use basic common sense to protect themselves. Women can start having abortions on biweekly schedules. Hell, every guy should start MMA training, we'll show those Koreans and their fucking karate.

...and what PBR doesn't realize, that with this plan, eventually government will tell people to eat healthier or exercise a number of times a week. To not drink alcohol. Whatever else that would help lower federal spending on health.

I'm glad someone else brought it up so I don't have to.

This whole health care takeover is about controlling us. Period.
