So...today I found out my landlord died, Thursday in his home. Dude was 45 and overall a nice dude. I just signed my lease with him the end of Sept.
I live in a triplex he owned, he also owns a larger complex that has 16 apartments in a nearby town. One of the other tennants in my building went to school with him and informed me I should be looking for a new place to live. When he mentioned this to me I inquired further and come to find out this dude's family has it in for him, meaning they're gonna be fighting back and forth over who gets what. Dude didn't have any kids nor a wife, just a brother and niece are all that were mentioned in the newspaper.
I'm curious as to what I should do? I'm not gonna pay my monthly rent to just anybody. The neighbor guy said, I should expect to have people(dude's family) knocking on my door asking for rent money at some point.
I'm gonna give the court house a call Monday and see what they suggest, but I just thought, maybe someone on here could shed some light for me.
I really hate to give this place up, the chances of finding a similar place for the same rent.
Thanks in advance.
