a plane will not take off if the treadmill is doing the same speed as the plane's engine/propeller will allow it to go. the only reason the plane took off on myth busters is because it was moving faster than the "huge treadmill" under it was going. if it was going in the same speed, the plane wouldnt have moved at all. the propeller doesn't move enough air it's self (assuming that the tread mill is going the same speed the plane should be going) to make lift for the plane, so again you idiots the plane will not lift off of the ground. as bad as i hate to say it, alykzandyr is right.sigpicComment

Take a high school physics class. It might give you a better understanding of how objects interact with one another. If you already have, youre probably fucked in that regard and you probably shouldnt talk about these types of things at all.a plane will not take off if the treadmill is doing the same speed as the plane's engine/propeller will allow it to go. the only reason the plane took off on myth busters is because it was moving faster than the "huge treadmill" under it was going. if it was going in the same speed, the plane wouldnt have moved at all. the propeller doesn't move enough air it's self (assuming that the tread mill is going the same speed the plane should be going) to make lift for the plane, so again you idiots the plane will not lift off of the ground. as bad as i hate to say it, alykzandyr is right.Comment

you sir are a fucking idiot.
back to the dumb question! :hitler:sigpicComment

This question was the most alarming demonstration for why maths and sciences cannot be made optional in highschool. The alternative breeds a whole horde of barely functional drones, capable of doing few things besides: failing to understand, getting angry and expressing opinions based on the first two steps.

First of all the wheels on an air plane are not powered. For a plane to take off, air must be flowing around the wings, (generates lift) And for this to happen, the the entire air plane,( fuselage, wings, all of it, traveling as a whole) must be traveling at its take off speed,( powered by engine(s)) which varies between different planes. If you were to place a plane on a treadmill, the wheels may be spinning at take off speed, but the sence the fuselage/wings are not moving, there isnt sufficient airflow flowing around the wings, so no lift is generated. So, a plane placed on a stationary treadmill, will not take off...everQuoted for sheer stupidity.a plane will not take off if the treadmill is doing the same speed as the plane's engine/propeller will allow it to go. the only reason the plane took off on myth busters is because it was moving faster than the "huge treadmill" under it was going. if it was going in the same speed, the plane wouldnt have moved at all. the propeller doesn't move enough air it's self (assuming that the tread mill is going the same speed the plane should be going) to make lift for the plane, so again you idiots the plane will not lift off of the ground. as bad as i hate to say it, alykzandyr is right.'89 325is S50 Track Montser

To our resident troll(s).
If the plane indeed needed to exerce force to the ground in order to go ahead (like a car, bicycle, tractor), then the threadmill would indeed make the plane stationnary. But as the plane's wheels are not powered, and the plane reacts with the air in order to go ahead, then as soon as the reactors or propellers are powered, the plane will fall of the threadmill and take its speed. It will need to go fast enough, until there's a vacuum on top of the wing to pull the airplane in the air.
A propeller will pull and push air. A reactor will create a reaction, a differential force, enough to move an object. It is not pulling or pushing air. It is the differential force toward the rear that makes ot go forward. Also, a propeller wouldn't work in space as there's no air, while a reactor does work in airless environement.
I learned the above in my physics classes at age 16. How old are you? Were you smoking pot when the class was given? :mrgreen:Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.
