Klipsch is great but they have a particular sound.
As for subwoofers, I'd go for an SVS. They have great offerings, reasonable prices and I haven't heard a single bad thing about them. Check out the cylinder subs, if you're able to find one secondhand you can save some sheckles.
SVS also offers satellite speakers now, I've listened to a set but not at any serious volume for any serious amount of time. It was pretty impressive though.paint sucks

Been nothing short of tremendously happy with the upgrade. Even the wife was blown away by the sound, and she couldn't give a damn less about speakers.
Retail is ~$3k for everything, or thereabouts, ended up paying about $750 shipped all said and done. Picked it all up second hand in great shape.
I have an older version of these, and have been happy with them as well. The highs are very smooth.
With Audio (car or home) YOU HAVE TO GO OUT AND LISTEN TO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE. Obviously the center channel is one of THE most important components, along with the FRONT LEFT/RIGHT and Sub.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205

I've been wanting to check out the Aperion stuff after the reviews I've read. Seems like they have some solid, affordable offerings.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Are you dead set on new-ish products?
You guys are making me feel ghetto with my old school set-up. It may not be 5.1 but it still cranks.
Seriously though - I've had good luck with old school stuff. You can find it in second hand stores for cheap! I love the warm sound old stuff gives you, even better if it uses tubes!
My current stereo set is all old, and wasn't top of the line stuff back then but it works well.
Realistic mach-one speakers [late 70s]
Sansui quadraphonic [early 70s]
(Shelf speakers are behind and not pictured.)

Nice! I have some older stuff as well, but nothing that old. My current 2channel speakers use scanspeak stuff, had them measured after crossover design etc.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205
